Though most of our exams are periodically done as part of your preventive care regimen, we may decide to schedule exams for other reasons too.

If you have significant oral issues or are considering more transformative services, we invite you to visit us for a comprehensive exam. Unlike our periodic dental exams in Charlotte, a comprehensive exam is longer and more thorough. You’ll be with Dr. Kleinheinz throughout the process as he looks in depth at your teeth and creates a thorough treatment plan for restoration or repair.

Dr. Kleinheinz also conducts emergency exams. If you’ve experienced a traumatic oral injury, major damage to an oral appliance, or serious tooth pain, you may be having a dental emergency. In these situations, you should let us know as soon as possible and we’ll schedule you for an emergency exam.

At these exams, Dr. Kleinheinz emphasizes stopping any immediate risks or pain. Then he’ll look into repairing any damage. Many emergencies can require further treatment for full restoration, but we’ll do everything we can to set you up for comfort and healing as you recover from your emergency.

The most common issue that we find is cavities from tooth decay. In most cases, we remove decay and restore the tooth with a resin composite (tooth colored) filling.

However, in some instances of major decay, more thorough treatments are necessary. For large areas of decay, cracked teeth, and other damage, we may put a crown over your tooth. A crown is a special restoration that covers your tooth and stops further damage. At the same time, it restores your chewing surfaces so you retain full functionality in your mouth.

Some serious issues may require a full tooth extraction to remove a damaged tooth. Extractions are performed to protect the overall integrity of the surrounding teeth and prevent future damage. Dr. Kleinheinz will methodically act to fully remove a damaged tooth and clean out the socket to stop infection.

After an extraction, we can replace the tooth with a dental implant. When you get dental implants, Dr. Kleinheinz grafts a small metal post to your jawbone. Once it has fused to the bone, this post forms the basis of a specially designed replacement tooth crown. After placing your implant, you’ll have a fully functioning tooth that looks and works better than the original damaged tooth!​​

Our periodic dental exams in Charlotte are convenient and only take a few minutes after your dental cleaning. Including the cleaning, your full visit should last about an hour.
