Emergency Dental Services

Emergency Dental Services:

A root canal is a procedure that removes infected pulp from your tooth, saving it from extraction. The tooth pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes infected, it needs to be removed in order to preserve the tooth.

During a root canal, the pulp inside the tooth is carefully removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected. The tooth is then sealed with a dental filling.

Why should I get a root canal?

A root canal is often necessary to save a tooth that has been severely damaged due to decay. When the inside of the tooth becomes infected, a root canal procedure is necessary to remove the damaged portion and refill the tooth with a rubber-like material.

Why should I get a root canal?

Root canal treatment is made painless with professional hands and advanced technologies. In fact, many patients report that root canal treatment is the least painful form of dental treatment. The root canal procedure involves clearing the infection from your tooth, so you may feel some sensitivity in the affected area. However, this discomfort will only last for a few days. Most patients find pain relief by taking medication prescribed by their dentist.

Do I need a crown after root canal treatment?

Once your root canal treatment has been completed, you will likely be asked to schedule a follow-up appointment. This appointment will include the placement of a crown over the tooth. This crown protects your tooth structure from fracturing in the future. It also restores your tooth’s appearance and allows it to function just as your natural tooth did.

What aftercare is required after a root canal?

After a root canal, patients will experience some tenderness around the infected tooth. The tissue around the tooth may be tender to the touch, and any hot or cold drinks or foods may cause discomfort. To manage pain, we recommend over-the-counter pain relievers. Patients may also choose to take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation in the gums.
