Same-Day Crowns

Advanced Technology

Our Charlotte office features state-of-the-art CEREC® technology. The CEREC (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) system includes a digital scanner, which Drs. Jeffrey Kleinheinz and Katrina Ashlin use to capture a precise impression of your bite. The machine then uses this data to fabricate a custom-fitted crown from dental porcelain in less than an hour.

Great Results

The CEREC machine crafts dental crowns out of high-end porcelain that is durable and perfectly resembles natural tooth enamel. Plus, because it references a precise digital scan of your natural tooth when creating the crown, you can trust that the crown will fit precisely over your treated tooth and among surrounding teeth.

Ultimate Convenience

Traditional dental crown treatment requires multiple visits to our Charlotte office and the use of temporary crowns. When you choose same-day crowns, however, we can treat your tooth, create your permanent crown, and place your crown all in a single session. You'll only have to schedule one appointment, and you'll have a functional, attractive smile as soon as possible.

Dr. Kleinheinz is the best Dentist I’ve ever been to! I am deeply traumatized by past experiences and he was just the most calmest and gentlest Dentist. I’ve had a crown put in and two cavities and I didn’t feel a thing. He explained everything he was doing. He was sociable, pleasant and took the time with me. From the moment you walk in the office you have a sense of calm. Everyone there is wonderful. Emma was so good to me and explained things clearly about my mouth guard I need. Highly recommend going here!

What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are like caps for damaged teeth. Our dentists utilize crowns in many situations, including:

  • Covering teeth that are too decayed for a dental filling
  • Protecting teeth that have been treated with root canal therapy
  • Covering imperfect teeth for a cosmetic upgrade
  • Restoring missing teeth in conjunction with dental implants

Our dental crowns can stand up to years of normal use and can be cared for just like natural teeth.

Traditional Dental Crowns What to Expect

While many patients take advantage of our same-day crown technology, some materials may require traditional dental crown treatment. During your initial appointment at our Charlotte office, our dentists can recommend which option is best for you.

If you decide to proceed with traditional dental crown treatment, here is what you can expect:

Our lab can make crowns out of porcelain or other lifelike materials.
Our lab can make crowns out of porcelain or other lifelike materials.

Tooth Preparation

Our dentists will begin your crown treatment by preparing your compromised tooth. If the tooth is decayed, they will remove the compromised tissue. If the tooth is infected, they can perform root canal treatment to remove the infection. After restoring the health of the tooth, they will gently reshape it so that the dental crown can fit seamlessly alongside the adjacent teeth. Local anesthetic is used throughout this process, and sedation can be provided upon request.

Once your tooth has been reshaped, our dentists will create impressions of your new bite. They may use the digital scanner on the CEREC system to capture digital impressions, or they may use traditional dental putty to create a physical impression of your teeth. Once the impressions have been taken, our dentists will fit you with a temporary crown to wear until your permanent crown is ready.

Crown Fabrication

Our dentists will send the impressions of your bite to a local, privately owned dental lab, where skilled technicians will design your dental crown. Our dentists have a great relationship with the lab, so you can trust that your dental crown will meet your expectations. The lab usually needs about two weeks to create the crown.

Crown Placement

We will schedule you for a second appointment so you can come in and receive your new dental crown. During this visit, our dentists will remove your temporary crown and then use dental cement to attach your crown. There is no downtime or special recovery associated with this procedure, but your tooth may feel sensitive for the rest of the day.

What Do Dental Crowns Cost?

At Kleinheinz Dentistry in Charlotte, NC, a dental crown will usually cost between $1,100 and $1,650. Prices vary based on whether you choose a same-day or traditional crown, whether you choose porcelain or a different material, and other factors.

Dental insurance will often contribute to the cost of a dental crown, unless you are receiving a crown for purely cosmetic reasons. We accept most insurance plans, and we will help you maximize your coverage and file your claims.

If you do not have insurance, you can save 15 percent on your dental crown by joining one of our Wellness Plans. We can also help you secure financing through LendingClub or CareCredit®.

"Dr Kleinheinz and his entire staff were great. My first visit and needed a crown put on for a broken tooth. It was done perfectly and they made a cap in their lab that same appointment. So no having to come back with a temp mold. It was all top notch. 5 stars for sure!" Gus Sundermeier, 5-Star Google Review

Dental Crowns and Dental Implants

Dental crowns are designed to cover natural teeth, but what if your tooth is completely gone? If you have a missing tooth, Dr. Kleinheinz can fill the gap in your smile by attaching a crown to a dental implant.

Implants are prosthetic tooth roots that fuse naturally with the jawbone. Once they integrate with the bone, they are able to provide unbeatable support to dental restorations like dentures, bridges, or crowns. Unlike many dentists, Dr. Kleinheinz has advanced training in implant dentistry, so he can place the implant and the crown without referring you to another office.
